If you are investing in a new TV, make sure that you position and install it carefully to ensure the best viewing experience. Many buyers make the mistake of aiming for aesthetic appeal when placing their TVs, rather than the best spot for viewing the screen.
Some tips when determining the best height for your television are:
Keep it at eye-level. A basic rule of thumb for positioning your television on a wall is to keep the center of the screen at eye-level. A lot of factors come into play, such as the height of the regular watchers and the size of your TV. Also, you will need to consider that you will likely be seated when watching which impacts how high eye-level actually is.
Too big for the room? If you are concerned that your TV is too big for the actual room, do the math to find out if you have ample distance for optimal viewing. Measure your TV's diagonal length, and multiply this by 1.5; this is the distance that you should be from the screen for the best viewing experience.
Fireplaces are not always the hot-spot. Even though it looks cool, installing your TV over the fireplace is not always the best idea. Given that optimal viewing is eye-level with the center of the screen, the elevated location above your fireplace could make it hard to watch, and possibly give every member of your family a stiff neck! The exception to this rule is in a space where viewers are typically standing, such as in your home lounge or entertainment area.
